Bushnell Night Vision:

Night Vision works to existing ambient light from stars, the moon and other "stray light" collected by the front lenses and then amplified by an electrical/chemical process so that clear vision in pitch black darkness. Inside the telescope is called " light amplifier tubes" where electrons are collected and multiplied, this creates a bright clear picture with a light green tone.

One night vision binocular should never be activated the day or where bright light is present when they are very light sensitive, this can eventually damage and shorten the life of " light amplifier tubes". Most units come with a built-in protection mechanism that disables night function in bright light (eg. When a lamp is lit).

Many night vision binoculars come with a built-in infrared light (IR) that can be activated if necessary. These are necessary for observation in complete darkness (eg in caves or underground). Without this function, night vision binoculars would not work in a pitch black room, then some form of an external light source must be present for the light to be amplified. Infrared light is invisible to the eye when the wavelength of 700 to 900nm is outside the visible spectrum, so the IR lamp "illuminates" not in the ordinary sense.
